June Notes From The President
June 12, 2006

Dear RPS Members, Honored Visitors and Guests,

I’ll start out with what is usually the last sentence—And a fine time was had by all. 28 shooters, or about that many participated in 4 challenging stages. I won’t go into the details here, but they were a great combination of exercises and imagination. The Steel Plate Rack of Doom was there again. Twelve plates, twelve bullets—maybe in your dreams, but not for too many folks on this past Sunday. Check the times on stage four and all will be revealed. You can’t hide from the timer, on the Plate Rack of Doom.

I don’t know what the official name of stage two should be, but perhaps we’ll call it “caught with your pants down”. Lawn mower man made his regular appearance here.

We have Ken Dexter to thank for “Going Postal” a very challenging stage with much movement, plenty of bullets, and quite a few different ways to solve the problem.

No wonder so many folks appreciate the work that we put into the creation and setup of our monthly matches.

Jim Valli’s friends shot with us again and they’re great shooters. Both men spent the day at setup with us and then kicked it on Sunday. Jim spent some time on Saturday giving Debbie some instruction and we hope she’ll shoot the next match with us.

We had two canopies up, the clubs 20 footer and Ken Dexter’s 10 by 10 and we used them both. It great to be able to get out of the strong sun that’s there on the site.

I’m headed to a meeting with Tess Albin-Smith on Tuesday, today, the 13th to speak with her about a use permit for the club’s continued use of the site on road 450. This past weekend we actually shared the site with a ccw class. The class took a location further down the road, and we were able to use our regular area. We cannot continue to do this with a casual agreement with CDF. We will need a use permit from CDF from this point on. I’ll know more after I meet with Tess, and report to the club at our Next Match on the Second Sunday of July, the 9th. Setup, of course on the 8th.

Again, a big thanks to all who make the matches happen. That’s the safety officers, club directors-Peter, Darrell, Ed, Dave and Ken, our scoremeister-Pam Tidd, and our Range Master Darrell Godwin. That’s also Dick Whetstone, the person who gets the scores out to all email folks, and who tracks the membership data base and the trophy points for awards to the best of the best at our end of the year banquet. A thank you again, to Chuck Hathaway for his great work on the web site. That’s www.redwoodpracticalshooters.org

We have three matches left, July, August and September. We end the season with the Classifier in October.

A Reminder: Club members must pay a $5.00 match fee for each match they shoot, in addition to paying annual dues and other qualifications. To shoot with us, you must be an IDPA member and have passed our safety class. If you qualify to shoot with us but have not yet joined RPS, your match fee for the first match you shoot with us is $5.00, after which it is $15.00 per match.
