September Notes From The President
September 10, 2006

Dear Club Members, Guests, and New Shooters

Dear RPS Members & Guests,

Well, that was it. The last match of the 2006 season. Scores have been sent out via Email, and there you have it. All scores and points are final, and Dick Whetstone is calculating the standings even as I write this.

Ken Dexter proposed that we move right ahead with the trophies and awards for the season and present them at the AWARDS BARBEQUE, after the classifier next month, scheduled for the second Sunday, October 8, starting at 9am. Ken said he would bring the barbeque, hamburgers and chicken. The rest of us would be responsible for beverages and sides. I’m in contact with our awards director, Edward Davies, and will see if we can pull this off by next month’s classifier.

There were again, 4 challenging and creative stages, with 32 (one of our biggest matches) shooters going through all stages. We had everything down and loaded onto the trailer and Darrell’s pickup by 4pm. Thanks to all who helped with setup on Saturday and stayed for tear down on Sunday.

Ralph Umbertis extended hospitality to the club and we were all invited to his place after Sunday’s match. I didn’t do a count, but about 12 of us took him up on the offer and enjoyed hotdogs, chili beans, beer and chips for several hours in the sunshine at the top of Three Knolls. His homestead is beautiful with a western theme. Beer was in the saloon, swinging doors and all, with a blacksmith shop attached. Food was in the Mercantile. After Resin the horse was shod, we brought her out so Jeanette could ride. Peter got his picture taken on the covered wagon, proudly holding his new 20ga.Coach Gun. Ralph, thank you so much. You and Elizabeth were wonderful hosts, and please thank her also from all of us.

Visit your IDPA rulebook and IDPA web site, and see what you’ll encounter at the classifier. Since it is always a long day, we’ve decided to slip in a shotgun stage for folks to shoot during the event. Ken will bring clays (anyone else that has ‘em can bring ‘em) and we’ll find a nearby location to use while the TWO classifier setups are in progress. Bring your shotgun and your favorite class of pistol, a beverage or side and all the rest of your gear.

It was great to see Dave Brown who will not be here for next month’s match. Oregon is really his home now. I and we all thank him for all he’s done to create and promote the club. It would not have happened without him. David, Thank you. Eric Frazier has not forgotten us. Sharon Tepper shot at the setup on Saturday. Clayton and Katherine came again from Santa Rosa; they are now full on IDPA members. A bunch of shooters came over from the Ukiah IDPA club to shoot with us. Welcome to you as always. Thanks to Jeanine for adding up the score sheets. They were done by the end of the match. Thank you Jeanine. And thanks as always to Dick Whetstone for his tracking of all of us and all our scores over the season. And to Chuck for his web work and, of course to our Directors, Darrell, Ken and Ed. See You All Next Month.

Peter Matlin, President
