October Notes
From The President
October 10, 2006
Dear Club Members, Guests, and New Shooters
Greetings to all RPS members, Visitors, Non-Member Shooters,
Girlfriends, Coast Commander, Husbands and Wives, Sheriff’s
Candidate, Ukiah Shooters, Sons and Daughters.
What a fine day! What a fine 2 days!! We shot the classifier
that ends our season, all weekend. About a dozen shot on
Saturday, and on Sunday we had 37 shooters. Several folks
also classified with more than 1 gun. We were a smooth running
group. We set up two classifier stages of fire and worked
it from 9am till 1pm. Then stopped for a great barbeque-thanks
to Director Dexter for cooking and providing the hamburgers
and chicken, and to all the others who brought food and drink-I
can’t name you all.
I gave a Treasurer’s report. We’re in good financial
shape with money available to further the club’s interests.
We captured two more Directors, Dick Whetstone and Chuck
Hathaway. We are six now (last year 4) and will work together
to create next year’s schedule. As you all heard, this
will involve all of us taking turns as Match
Directors. That’s
right, it will take about 24 or more of us to do what Darrell
has been doing and organizing mostly by himself. Please-I
know a lot more people are involved here, but we know how
much we depend on Darrell. He’s taking a much earned
break. We plan to organize a group of 4 shooters each month
to put up the match. The club will try to arrange for a storage
container on-site. More details to follow. The Directors
will be in touch.
Ed Davies our Awards Director then presented this years
awards.
SSR, 1st place to Ralph Umbertis, 2nd to Daniel Dickson, 3rd to Ed Davies Sr.
ESP, 1st to Dick Whetstone, 2nd Ken Dexter, 3rd Pam Tidd
CDP, 1st to Dave Brown, 2nd Don Hooper, 3rd Dave Borson
SSP, 1st to Greg Stefani, 2nd to Ken Dexter Jr., 3rd to Joe Mankinen
Most improved shooter award involved 4 people because so
many had improved over the year. The final shoot-of had Daniel
Dickson’s revolver against Eric Fraziers’s XD.
After Eric won by a whisker, he later called and suggested
that perhaps if he had loaded to six only, it might have
been a more fair match. He proposed that because Daniel with
revolver had really been right there very close behind, that,
in fact, Daniel deserved the award. The Directors agreed.
Jeanine Stefani took the Fashion Statement award in Pink.
Ken Dexter was Most Accurate shooter.
Then came the fun! Shotguns everywhere! Shootouts! Rifles
too! Shooting Clays on one side of the hill and one on one
shoot-outs on the other side of the space. With food and
dessert in the middle Was it Jeanine who brought that chocolate
cake? Jeanette worked the thrower (thank you Jeanette), and
sometimes there were as many as 4 shotgunners on the line
at the same time. At the shoot-off area, on each side, there
were 4 plates and 3 poppers, with crossed poppers to stop
the clock. We did ‘em with pistols, we did ‘em
with shotguns, we did ‘em with revolvers against automatics.
I think we missed pistols against shotguns. Ed Davies and
I went head to head with our Rossi’s. Borson did the
best two out of three for 3rd place in CDP. Folks were waiting
in line for their turn in the shooting boxes. STEEL RULES!
We finally had the trailer loaded by about 4pm. I left Darrell
there with the lock to the gate and with Sam and Adrian for
just a little more rifle shooting, and went on home.
I returned the gate key to CDF on Tuesday, and turned out
the lights.
Until next year. Peter Matlin, Pres.
