Our location is situated among the beautiful redwood trees and a great place to enjoy some time outdoors among friends and family. You are invited to join us from March through October. Come and just watch if you like. Eye and ear protection are required. New members are required to attend one of our safety classes before participation.
The Site is located at Jackson State Forest Gate 450. It is between mile marker 8.0 and 8.22 on the south side of Hwy 20. From Fort Bragg go approx 110 yards past mile marker 8.0, turn right, go up the hill 30 yards, turn to the right through the gate and proceed slowly down the hill to park. From Willits go approx 110 yards past mile marker 8.22, and turn left to get to the gate. Click here to see it on a map.
Class Rules
This area is open to the public, and RPS has no control over how non-club members conduct themselves while they are using the area, on days that RPS has not pre-arranged with Cal Fire to hold our events. On the days that RPS is hosting any event – we run a COLD range. Which means no one is allowed to have a loaded gun until they are on the firing line and under the direct supervision of an IDPA certified RPS Safety Officer. The only time firearms can be handled, are either at the designated safe table – a place that no ammo can be handled, or on the firing line, as described above. The rest of the time a pistol is either in a closed case/gun bag of some kind, or in the holster, and not handled at all. The specifics of handling long guns is covered prior to the beginning of any event involving long guns, and can vary slightly depending on the event.
In general RPS will always follow Colonel Cooper’s 4 Basic Rules of Gun Safety:
- All guns are always loaded
- Never let the muzzle cover anything you aren’t willing to destroy
- Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target
- Be sure of your target and what’s beyond it
